Woodland goes 1-1 at Battle for Bartow

Woodland went 1-1 at the Battle for Bartow Baseball Classic on April 6, recording a 10-3 win over Sonoraville before dropping a 14-4 lose to Heritage.

In the win over the Phoenix, Jakiyon Porter had three RBIs for Woodland, as did Ayden Ray.

Rowan Billings, Mason Williams and Julian Wright each recorded one RBI each for Woodland in the win at LakePoint Sporting Community, while Chase Carson and Connor Stermer also had two hits a piece.

Pitcher Austin Daves gave up three runs in the first inning, but he shutout Sonoraville for the remaining six innings of play.

Sonoraville falls to 15-5, overall, with a 7-2 record in Region 7, 4A play, following the loss.

In the loss to Heritage, Billings and Conor Lujan each recorded one RBI for the Wildcats. Ray finished the game with two hits, while Brett Good, Porter and Wright had one hit a piece.

The game was called in the fifth inning after Heritage exploded for eight runs in what was, up until then, a close 6-4 contest in favor of the Generals.

Zach Lambert had three strikeouts pitching for Woodland while Hunter Shirley had one strikeout.

Coby Barrett, Logan Bentley and Luke Evans also saw time at the mound for the Wildcats.

Heritage improves to 15-7, overall, with a 6-3 record in Region 7, 4A play following the win; the Wildcats drop to 12-11, overall, with a 6-3 record in Region 7, 5A competition this season.

The Wildcats were scheduled to take on Alexander (14-8, overall, with an 8-2 record in Region 5, 6A play) at LakePoint on April 7.
