STAFF REPORT
It might sound like a one-sided game of blackjack, but Woodland’s 20-5 win over Hiram on March 31 actually took place on the baseball diamond.

The Wildcats recorded 19 hits in the drubbing, with Woodland scoring 10 runs in the second inning alone.

Rowan Billings had one home run in the contest and five RBIs.

Ayden Ray had three RBIs and sacrifice fly for Woodland, while Luke Evans recorded two RBIs.

Also recording RBIs for Woodland in the shellacking were Coby Barrett, Logan Bentley, Zach Lambert, Conner Lujan and Connor Sterner.

Dylan Carver, Carson Waits, Cam Williams and Julian Wright also contributed to Woodland’s hit tally. Mason Williams is also credited with a RBI by way of a sac fly.

Hunter Shirley, playing for three innings, collected five strikeouts on the pitcher’s mound for the Wildcats. Barrett also had five strikeouts during two innings of play.

The win gives Woodland a clean sweep of a three-game series against the Hornets.

Woodland previously defeated Hiram 17-0 on March 28, following that up with a 10-0 win over the Hornets on March 30.

Hiram drops to 4-13, overall, this season, with a 0-9 record in Region 7, 5A competition.

Woodland improves to 11-10, overall, with a 6-3 record in regional play.

The Wildcats will face a trio of non-regional opponents this week.
