Woodland defeats Calhoun

The Wildcats defeated the Yellow Jackets twice on April 11.

Game one was a close one, with Woodland narrowly defeating Calhoun 8-7.

Brett Good, Mason Williams, Ayden Ray and Connor Stermer each had RBIs in the win, with Julian Wright finishing the outing with three hits.

Ray had six strikeouts on the mound for Woodland, with Coby Barrett collecting three strikeouts over two innings of play. Hunter Shirley also recorded two strikeouts for Woodland, with Zach Lambert recording one strikeout.

The second half of the doubleheader, however, was nowhere near as close.

Woodland blanked Calhoun 11-0 in game two, which saw Wildcats pitcher Austin Daves pitch a five-inning shutout.

Stermer had two RBIs for the Wildcats, with Good, Ray and Williams each posting one RBI each.

Following the doubleheader, Woodland improves to 14-12 on the season, with an 8-3 record in Region 7, 5A competition.

Calhoun falls to 9-15, overall, with a 6-5 regional record this year.

Game three of the series will take place at Calhoun on April 13. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5:55 p.m.
