Woodland, Cass renew rivalry

The Woodland Wildcats and the Cass Colonels will renew their region rivalry Friday night after closing out the non-region portion of their schedule last week.

Adairsville seeks to stay perfect in Region 6-3A action when it takes on LaFayette.

Cartersville returns to action after a week off trying to keep its record perfect when it opens Region 7-5A play at Calhoun.

Cartersville (5-0) vs. Calhoun (4-1)

Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last Week: Both teams were off.

Series Record: Cartersville leads 31-1-1

What to Know: The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes are headed into their Region 7-5A opener with an undefeated record. The Purple Hurricanes have outscored their opponents 164-33. Quarterback Nate Russell has thrown for 620 yards and passed for six TDs. Cartersville has spread the wealth among 11 different rushers. Khristian Lando has rushed for 259 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Richard Houston has rushed for 236 yards and a TD. Baylon Long comes into the sixth game of the season with 236 yards and three TDs. Jamauri Brice has 10 receptions and three TDs. Teammate Kendrick Price has seven receptions and two TDs. Calhoun comes into its first region game riding a four-game winning streak.

The Yellow Jackets dropped the opening game of the season to Blessed Trinity before defeating Carver, Creekview, Cedartown and Sonoraville. The Yellow Jackets have outscored their opponents 162-86.

Woodland (2-3) vs. Cass (3-2)

Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last Week: Woodland lost to Osborne 14-0. Cass beat M.L. King 40-0.

Series Record: Cass leads 13-6.

What to Know: Cass lost the first two games of the season to Rome and Rockmart before starting a three-game winning streak against Drew, Adairsville and M.L. King, The Colonels have outscored their opponents 153-86.

Cass quarterback Brodie McWhorter and wide receiver Sacovie White have hooked up several times this season for scores. Devin Henderson has also been one of the team’s go-to running backs. In the victory against M.L. King, Devin Henderson found the end zone on a first-half TD to help Cass build the momentum and put the game away early.

Woodland will attempt to get its offense back on track after getting shut out by Osborne last week.

The Wildcats are led by QB Brelace Williams who passed for five TDs through his first four games. Running back Devin Teasley has rushed for three TDs.

Williams has thrown to nine different wide receivers.

Jay Walker caught eight passes from Williams through the first four games.

LaFayette (1-4) vs. Adairsville (3-2)

Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last Week: LaFayette lost to Gordon-Lee 21-20. Adairsville beat Ringgold 28-26.

Series Record: Adairsville leads 9-2.

What to Know: Both teams come into the contest after close games last week. Adairsville is on a two-game winning streak. In addition to last week’s victory over Ringgold, the Tigers also knocked off Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Those two victories helped the Tigers jump out to a 2-0 record in Region 6-3A. Jonathan Gough has been an offensive catalyst for the Tigers throwing seven TD passes. He has also run for an additional seven TDs.
