Wildcats down Colonels 12-3 in five innings

The Lady Wildcats of Woodland took advantage of 10 walks and timely hitting to secure a 12-3 victory over Cass in five innings on Tuesday in region 7-5A action.

This was the first game of a doubleheader on the night.

After giving up a run in the first to Cass, Woodland came back with an RBI single from Peyton Dorn to tie it up in the top of the second.

In the top of the third for Woodland, Elizabeth Hartsfield collected the first of her four RBIs, as she recorded a single. In the same inning, Kamryn Smith would record a sac fly to go up 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third.

Cass would respond with an RBI single by Payton Mize after a stolen base by KK Evans to make it a 3-2 game.

Woodland put the game out of reach however as they scored six runs in the top of the fourth. The big blow came from Hartsfield as she launched a three-run home run over the left field fence, to make it a 9-2 game going into the bottom of the fourth.

Hartsfield would go 3-3, with two walks and 5 RBIs.

The Colonels scored their last run in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI double by Cayce Brown.

The Wildcats responded with three runs after a bases loaded walk by Hartsfield and multiple wild pitches that would score Jordan Hammonds and Alana Carnes.

After a scoreless frame in the fifth by Dorn, the Wildcats secured the region win over Cass 12-3.

“They played well,” WHS coach Todd Eubanks said. “Alana had two hits and Elizabeth had three. They have been playing well all year.”

Cass (9-17) hosts their last game at home Thursday against North Cobb Christian in non-region action.

Woodland (20-9) hosts LaFayette for their last game on the regular season in non-region play Thursday.
