Woodland runners finish in top 10 in state

Woodland’s cross country teams both finished in the top 10 at the 5A Cross Country State Championships this past Saturday.

The Wildcats had three runners in the top 50 with Tyler Jones finishing 10th individually. The Lady Wildcats placed 8th as a team with three runners in the top 50.

Cartersville also had some high finishers as it finished 24th as a team in the boys’ division and 19th in the girls’ division. The Lady Canes had two runners in the top 40 while the boys had one runner in the top 70.

Adairsville finished 15th in the 3A Cross Country State Championship with two girls in the top 40 and one boy in the top 45.

Decatur High School won both the boys’ and girls’ 5A championships. Oconee won the boys’ 3A championships while Wesleyan won the girls’ title.

Woodland

Jones ran a 17:25.54 to finish in 10th place out of at least 211 runners. Juan Mendoza finished 37th with a time of 18:20.92 and Drew Thayer was 50th with a time of 18:35.10. Landon McSwain was 60th and ran 18:48.09.

Other Woodland runners included Andy Forsyth (123rd, 19:55.45), Kameron Chappell (129th, 19:58.35) and freshman Rowan Lee (181st, 21:17.99).

Danielle Thayer was Woodland’s top female competitor as she ran 22:20.94 to finish 32nd. Emma Segars was 43rd with a time of 22:54.62 and Olivia Berry was 47th after posting a time of 23:02.40. Miranda Pelow was 58th with a time of 23:24.51.

Other Woodland runners included Autumn Lottner (90th, 24:46.59), Abby George (95th, 24:58.01) and Addison brown (96th, 24:58.19).
