Woodland boys, girls 5th in Atlanta Classic

The Woodland boys and girls cross country teams each finished fifth Saturday in the Atlanta Classic at Clinton Farms.

Tyler Jones paced the Wildcats, placing 10th in 16 minutes 42.70 seconds — less than a second away from seventh position.

McKinley Chappell finished 20th for Woodland, which wound up just two points behind host Chapel Hill. Kain Tanturri, John Forsyth and Andy Forsyth finished 56th-58th to complete the scoring.

In the girls championship race, Rylee Evans led the Wildcats with a 16th-place showing and a time of 19:34.70.

Emma Segars put in a strong effort, finishing 28th overall. Olivia Berry came in 40th, with Miranda Pelow not far behind in 45th. Danielle Thayer rounded out the scorers with a 65th-place finish.
