Woodland stranded the potential tying run at second base to escape with a 5-4 victory over Coahulla Creek in non-region action March 7 at home.
After building a 5-0 lead, the Wildcats needed a strikeout and groundout to hold off the Colts, who scored twice each in the fifth and seventh innings.

A two-run triple by Ayden Ray in the opening frame staked Woodland (6-4) to an early lead. In the fourth, Julian Wright drove in a pair with a single, and Jacob Gravett followed with an RBI hit.
The Wildcats totaled a dozen hits, while limiting the Colts to just five.
Ray paced the hosts with a 3-for-4 showing. Wright and Jakiyon Porter recorded two hits each. Chase Carson finished 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Wright earned the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs over five solid frames. The junior gave up four hits, while striking out six with no walks.
Rowan Billings struck out two in a scoreless inning. In the seventh, Conner Stermer worked around a pair of walks and a two-run double to close out the win.
