Wildcats defeat Catamounts in double header

Woodland come out victorious in a doubleheader on March 16, giving the Wildcats a series sweep against Dalton.

The Wildcats defeated the Catamounts 7-0 in the first game on Thursday evening, with pitcher Ayden Ray recording nine strikeouts and giving up only two hits in seven innings at the mound.

Conner Lujan had three RBIs in the win, while Brett Good, Connor Stermer and Julian Wright each recorded one RBI.

Rowan Billings and Chase Carson also posted one hit each in the shutout.

Game two was closer, but Woodland still prevailed 6-4 over Dalton.

Billings, Carson and Ray each posted a RBI in the victory, with Lujan and Wright also recording hits.

Austin Daves had four strikeouts in four innings at the mound, while pitcher Hunter Shirley recorded three strikeouts in two innings of play.

Coby Barrett also had one strikeout for Woodland, while Ray recored two strikeouts.

On March 14 the Wildcats shellacked the Catamounts 16-1.

Following the sweep, the Wildcats are 3-0 in Region 7, 5A play and are 8-7 overall on the season.

Up next for Woodland is a three-game series against Cartersville. Game one will be held on March 20 at Woodland, with game two slated to be played at Cartersville on March 23. Game three would return to Woodland on March 24.
