Local schools compete in Purple Hurricane Invitational

Cartersville, Woodland and Cass all participated in the 2023 Purple Hurricane Invitational on Feb. 25.

The boys’ division was ultimately won by Cedartown while Westminster ultimately won the girls’ division.

Woodland finished fifth overall in the boys’ division, with Cartersville finishing sixth and Cass finishing ninth.

In the girls’ division, Cass finished sixth while the Lady Canes finished seventh. Woodland came in eighth at the meet.

Woodland’s Noah Baer came in first in the boys’ pole vault competition, while fellow Wildcat Zachary Wiggins came in first in the boys’ 300 meter hurdles event.

Baer also came in second in the boys’ 400 meter dash.

Cass’ Devan Curtis finished second in the boys’ discus throw while Woodland’s Jamarion Walker and Christiaan Vera finished second in the boys’ triple jump and high jump events, respectively.

Cartersville’s Kendrick Price came in second in the boys’ 100 meter dash and Purple Hurricane Malachi Vosburgh finished second in the boys’ 1,600 meter run.

Cass’ Colin Holt finished third in the boys’ triple jump event and Woodland’s Drew Thayer came in third in the boys’ 800 meter run.

Cartersville finished second in both the boys’ 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay events and Woodland finished second in both the boys’ 4×200 meter and 4×800 meter relay competitions.

Cass’ Kaitlyn Godwin finished first place in both the girls’ 100 meter and 400 meter dash events. She also came in second in the girls’ 200 meter dash.

Cass’ KK Evans finished second in the girls’ high jump while Cartersville’s Leyla Booth finished second in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles.

Woodland’s Kiconco Bassler finished third in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles event.

Cartersville came in second in the girls’ 4X800 meter relay and Woodland finished third in the same event.
